Today we're celebrating Grandma Victory's 88th birthday! What a blessing it is to have not only her, but my other two grandparents around to see our little ones grow up. I can only hope that I'm still alive--physically, mentally, and spiritually--when I'm 2 years shy of 90!
This reminds me of a sight we saw yesterday at the Sedgwick County Zoo. Sam and I were approaching the entrance of the chimpanzee building. Ahead of us, there was an elderly couple, I'm guessing in their 80's (and that's me being nice). The little old gentleman was riding a motorized scooter, and apparently, neither he or nor his wife knew how to operate the high and low speed settings. As she opened the door for him to enter, he pushed the Go button and off he flew--and I mean that literally! I just knew he was going to have triple vision (if he could even see at all) from banging right in to the glass wall. You can just imagine at this point how hard it was for me to contain myself--I knew better than to even look at Sam, or I would have lost it. The little old man looked at his wife like it was her fault, and then she says, "Well here, come over to this door; maybe it's a little wider." At that point, a little girl politely opened the other door and waited for the man to ride over to her. I cringed, as I just KNEW it was going to be a replay of the previous attempt. Sure enough, the little old man hit the Go button, and BOOM! right into the door he went. ROFL! I couldn't help it--I looked at Sam, and had there not been animal poop on the ground, I would have been down there rolling with laughter. Sam quickly reminded me that it wasn't nice to laugh--and I just laughed harder. I couldn't wait to get home and tell my mom that I saw a foreshadow of her and my dad in about 20 years. :)
