News

Alright, enough already. I don't have the time to wait on people. :) Much thanks to those of you who DID comment: Carly, Sam, Katie, YAW!!, and Ronda...you all are the best, and I know this probably sounds ridiculous, but your comments are exactly what encourages me to keep this thing updated. So keep 'em comin'!!

Well, never on God's green earth did I ever imagine I would be working fulltime in a mortuary. But, I'm doing exactly that. I start tomorrow, and I am so stoked about it. (I hope that doesn't sound too morbid! lol) So this means a couple of things: 1) I have a suspicion that I won't be able to blog as often, 2) I TRULY covet your prayers--it's going to be really hard to leave my kids after being with them 24/7 for the past 8 months, and 3) My mom would truly covet your prayers as well--she will be stuck in her tiny cottage all by herself everyday with Dominic, Grady, Maya, and Gabriel. She's an AMAZING person, let me tell ya!

So what else is new? I'm going to be hitting everyone up to buy Yankee Candles...so be prepared! :) I'm selling them as a fundraiser for our Women's Ministry group at church.

Last but not least, I would like to request that you keep my sister and nephew in your thoughts and prayers. They are facing some changes in the near future. I'll be sure to keep you updated following family announcements, but in the meantime, please remember them on a daily basis!!

Much love (& licks to KT),
Sarah

PS--For those of you who are anxiously awaiting pictures, I tried to post some, but blogger is having some issues, so I'll get them up ASAP, I PROMISE!!

alrighty, here's the deal...

I know for fact there are at LEAST 10 people who read this blog on a regular basis. SO...just because I want some more comments, I'm not going to write another post until I get at LEAST 7 comments by 7 different people.

get it? got it? GOOD!

PS--don't use the excuse that you don't have a 'username'--just comment as "anonymous" and then sign your name at the bottom (or don't sign your name...I don't really care, just let me know you're out there)!

Hot Dogs

What is it about a hot dog at a ballgame? Those are the best-ever lookin', smellin', tastin' hot dogs in the world. It's just one of those things--very similar to having a corn dog at the State Fair; or cotton candy at the Circus; or caramel apples at the Fall Festival; or a sno cone at the swimming pool.

Speaking of swimming pools, we went over to our friends' house on Sunday after church. It was an afternoon get-together for our Sunday School class. We started out with hamburgers & hot dogs off the grill, chips & dip, and pan cookies. And lemme just say...it was Beeeeeeelicious with a capital B!! :)

So after we ate, Sam and I got the kids ready (Maya & Dominic) to go for a swim. We were having a lot of fun. Sam was pulling Maya around in her new floating-mobile, and I was giving my arms a workout by lifting Dominic out of the pool and catching his jumps--I'm sure we did that at LEAST 500 times! (Okay, I'm exaggerating--it was probably only 492 times!)

It wasn't long before Maya was ready to get out of her floater. So she decided to go sit and play on the steps of the pool where the water was billowing into the pool. In the mean time, Sam or I (I'm not sure which of us came up with the brilliant idea) decided it would be fun to toss Dominic back and forth in the air. We were all loving it and having a super fun time, but we figured after a couple throws to and fro that we should stop before Dominic swallowed up the entire pool!! The only problem was, well, we didn't make that decision soon enough. The next thing I knew, we had a new spot from which the billowing water was coming--Dominic's mouth! And it was then that I realized I was surrounded by floating chunks of hot dog! Yum!! And this kid wasn't just puking a little water up--he was ferociously vomiting. So I grabbed him as quick as I could and threw him out on the deck to my dad as I yelled, "EVERYONE OUT OF THE POOL!" After a few more spews from his mouth, he stopped. By this time, the pool was loaded, and I mean LOADED with floating hot dogs. My dad grabbed the water hose and sprayed Dom off, and me too--now THAT was cold! As I walked to the house, I couldn't help but to keep looking in the pool...I kept wondering how many hot dogs he had eaten---it looked like a whole pack of those suckers floating around in that water! I better quit or I'm going to puke while I'm typing this. lol

So we went inside to get changed. I went in to change myself first. I pulled my swimsuit off, and well, let's just say I heard a bunch of little somethings hitting the floor--yep, you got it--my suit was COMPLETELY FULL of hot dogs! I was so embarrassed...I'll be amazed if we're ever invited back to this house again!

So I cleaned up the bathroom floor, and then I went out to get Maya changed. She was playing in her buddy Nathan's playroom so I went ahead and took her swimsuit off, along with her Little Swimmer (diaper). I went out to the living room to grab her a diaper, and when I got back into the playroom my sister gasped and whispered, "oh my gosh, Sarah!!!!!!!" I looked over just in time to see Maya straddling Nathan's truck. This truck had a hole right in the middle of it and wouldn't ya know, my child decided it would be a fun game to fill that hole up with pee. And she did just that.

Well, I'm going to wrap up, but you can surely imagine how embarrassed I was! Thank the Lord for good friends! I finally worked up the nerve to tell Carmen what had happened...so when she got done cleaning chunks out of the pool, she came inside and had to disinfect her son's toys! And bless her heart--she just tilted her head back and laughed about all of it...AND she even offered for me to take a shower before I left. Let me just say that was the best shower I've had in a long time!!!

So are any of you planning on having hot dogs tonight? If you were, I bet you won't be now! :)

Love you all!

Thankful Thursday

Today, I'm thankful for miracles, both big and small. Here are just a FEW of the miraculous moments that God has so graciously allowed me to experience in my life:

--2 precious babies who were born perfectly healthy.

--After talking to Sam for 1 hour, I knew for a fact that he was the man I was going to marry. Six months later, we tied the knot. :)

--In 2006, after being anointed for complete healing, I was given the best news ever--that I was free from cervical cancer. Thank you, Jesus!

--A very recent miracle that I cannot go into detail about just yet...just know that God still answers prayers!!!

--In 2003, I witnessed the most incredible, obvious, make-your-hair-stand-up-on-the-back-of-your-neck, goosebump-giving miracle ever. My "little brother," Uzzie, was on his deathbed, and it is only by the power of prayer and the miraculous hands of God that this boy is alive today.

--On July 4, my cousin Lindsey choked on a marshmallow while playing Chubby Bunny. My other cousin, Andy, tried giving her the Heimlech but had no luck. My aunt, Amy quickly stepped in for Andy, and finally the marshmallow was dislodged from Lindsey's throat. I realize it's probably not something you would think was really a big deal...unless you saw Lindsey's colorless face, or unless you were at church with us the very next Sunday when our pastor told of his friend who died on July 4 after choking on a peanut butter sandwich.

--Many gorgeous Kansas sunsets.

--On Good Friday, my very good friends, The Schmitts, were in a horrible car accident as a result of a drunk driver. After spending many days and nights on a ventilator, many broken bones, and many hours of rehabilitation, Lisa & Ashley came over to my grandma's house last week to visit with us for a little while...Ashley was walking with no assistance, and Lisa only has to use a cane. You can read their story at

What are you thankful for today?

That smile is deceiving.

Just Listen.

"Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me...anything can happen, child. Anything can be." Shel Silverstein

Sam and I have been working hard with Maya on her listening skills. As a one-year-old, self-absorbed, unlearned infant, we have a very important job on our hands--to teach her to listen. I want to do my very best in teaching her life lessons, but listening is going to be a tough one, as even we, as adults, still have days when we don't want to listen.

God has been working with me for 26 years on my listening skills...that's a stinkin' long time! You would think by now that I would have the hang of it--I mean, I even have a master's degree so you would think that along my life I've HAD to pick up the skill of listening from somewhere. But honestly, it takes a conscious effort every single day for me to be a good listener. And lately, I've been trying to execute those conscious efforts to hear my Guide's still, small, sweet voice.

I've been looking for a job for over a month now. I've put in well over 30 applications at various places. You would think with an advanced education, computer skills, and the ability to type 77 words per minute that I could find something--even if it's just a temporary desk job to fill the financial gap until something else comes along. Only one place called me in for an interview, and honestly, I thought the position would be mine. However, the email I received this morning stated differently. I'm sure the Valley Center school district's superintendent was reassured his decision was the right one after he drove by my mom's house this morning and saw me outside--I was still in my nightgown, my hair looked like a peacock, I had Gabriel in his car seat on my left arm, burp rags and clothes over my shoulder, and I was gritting my teeth, trying to get Maya unbuckled when the superintendent drove by and timidly waved at me. Needless to say, I couldn't wave back, and I had the look of death on my face--and that was all before I had even read the rejection email!!!

So anyway, here's the ironic part:
Before I even started sending out my resume' to places, I had emailed a lady that Sam and I volunteer for and she immediately emailed me back, stating she would LOVE for me to start working for her, and she would pay me the same amount I was making at KU Med, but she couldn't offer me full-time hours until she received another grant. Well, I kind of "him-hawed" around, and I felt God nudging me in the side, but I didn't want to listen--so I did what EYE wanted to do, and guess what? It got me nowhere. And guess what? I accepted the part-time offer to work for Shannon. My, oh my, how much time & stress I could have saved myself if only I had LISTENED!!!

The place I'll be working is absolutely amazing in itself, and I will elaborate on that in a later post. But, isn't God good?! So faithful...so patient...and how he must just sit back and get a kick out of us, as well as get frustrated with us when we won't listen. I am praying for God to continue guiding me and directing in the path that HE wants for my life, and for Sarah to remember what her mom and dad taught her when she was a one-year-old, self-absorbed, unlearned infant--LISTEN!

Much love to all of you. I need to run, but I'll post some pictures later today for those of you who should be rewarded for reading this long post! :)

Thankful Thursday

Hey, Sam here. I was asked to post thankful Thursday. Instead of making a gi-normous list of things I am thankful for, I am going to pick a few and elaborate on them.

First on the list is Troubles. I am ever so thankful for every single trial and tribulation I am faced with, daily. If we could grasp, I mean really grasp, get clean down to the pit of our soul exactly what the Bible is talking about when it says to glory in our infirmities, our lives would change. I don’t mean just change how we look at things; I am talking about a total, complete transfiguration in your body, soul, and spirit. The reason for this restructuring of our lives comes down to one easy, simple, awesome detail: when we go through stuff, Jesus is closer than ever. So for that reason I am thankful for my troubles.

Praise Jesus, I have a wife. If there is one person other that Jesus Christ in my life that helps me, convicts me, and encourages me, it’s my wife. Sarah, you are the best and most wonderful wife ever. I do nothing daily to earn you, and yet every night without fail, it is you who I lie next to and fall asleep. If Sarah ever said that there was a problem in our marriage I would have to agree, it is ME. But for some strange reason, you stay. The Bible says that he who finds a wife finds a good thing. And Sarah, you're not good, you're grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

My third and final subject for this Thankful Thursday is my children. No one could have ever told me how much my kids would mean to me. It is something you have to experience. I will always love them and protect them and care for them. If one of my children gets hurt, I feel the pain. With that said, imagine what God must have felt when he sent Jesus to come and die on the cross. I am sure he felt the pain of his only begotten son. When I come home at night and Maya is yelling, "Dada Dada!", it is the most rewarding feeling ever.

Thank you Jesus for my Wife, my Children, and my Trials, and most of all, for dying on the cross to save my wicked soul.

Naked Ladies

What a morning, let me tell ya!

First, I woke up feeling something wet on the side of my nightgown. I was holding Gabriel, and as I peeled him away from my side, I realized he had peed like a horse--my nightgown was soaked, his clothes were soaked, and the bed sheets were soaked! Not really a big deal, I just cleaned everything up and we were good to go.

We waited a bit for Maya to wake up, and then we got her ready to go to Nana's. I decided I would try to tackle potty training today; so we put on panties (or as Maya calls them, "kitties"). So far, so good. I got the diaper bag loaded up, got Maya's shoes on, got Gabriel in his car seat, and out the door we went.

On my way out the door, somehow the screen door shut prematurely, and it caught me on my right ankle. Now THAT about made me cry. It was one of those instances where your insides pucker, and you're completely immobile--you can't walk, you can't talk, you can't cry, you can't even blink...the only thing you CAN do is grit your teeth.

Anyways, I managed to get the kids loaded in the van, and off we went to mom's house. I pulled out of the driveway, listening to Natalie Grant, and the world was good. Then all of a sudden, this thing jumps out in front of me. I looked in the rearview mirror, and all I could see were Maya's huge, brown eyes opened wider than I had ever seen before, and her little mouth opened just as wide, and she screamed at the top of her lungs. I slammed on the brakes, and the poor deer was trying to get out of my way, but his legs were sliding in the dirt, and he couldn't go one way or the other. He was just stuck. Finally, I think he realized that my van was actually stopped, so he gained enough traction to actually move out of my way.

By the way, I HATE deer.

Well, my heart was thumping, and I was frazzled. I was shaking and sweating, and wondering what the rest of the day had in store when I looked over and saw this house with the most beautiful flowers in the front yard. The closer I got, I realized it was a bunch of naked ladies...and the thought itself made me fill with laughter. I can just imagine an old man living there and telling people, "yeah, I've got a bunch of naked ladies in my front yard...you oughtta come see 'em!" :)

We finally made it to mom's house in one piece, with the exception of the skin I lost off my ankle on the front porch. When I was getting Gabriel out of the van, mom slung open the front door and yelled, "SARAH, YOU'VE GOT BLOOD RUNNING DOWN YOUR ANKLE!!!!!" That made me laugh even harder...it's one of those injuries that looks A LOT worse than it really is. Bless her heart, she was really worried about me. She grabbed the baby and told me to "get in there and get that cleaned up!"

Well, I sat down to eat some cereal, spilled it all over my shirt, and stepped on wet carpet. Maya had peed in her "kitties." So, I took her to the toilet, and that turned into a traumatic experience, so I've put a diaper back on her and decided to leave potty training for a better day. By the time I got back to my cereal, it was super soggy--yuck! So that went right down the drain. Then, Gabriel was smelling a little funky fresh, so I changed his diaper, and let's just say...he wasn't done doing his business yet. So I had poop flying EVERYWHERE. :) Only a mama can smile about that, I guess. lol

So now, I'm sitting here, taking a deep breath and enjoying a throat-burnin' Pepsi. And it's not even Noon yet!

"I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth." Psalm 34:1

Happy Anniversary, Sam!

As Winnie the Pooh says,

"If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you."

Thanks for an incredible 2 years together, and for loving me like nobody ever has. I love you!

Thankful Thursday

Yes, I realize it's only Monday. But, I haven't been able to post a Thankful Thursday for awhile now, and it's my blog so I can write whatever I want to write whenever I want to write it. :)

One of my favorite songs (the one you should hear playing right now) says, "...and I know there'll be days when this world brings me pain, but if that's what it takes to praise You, Jesus bring the rain."

Today I'm thankful for rain. I'm thankful for the scent of rain, and for the nose that I'm able to smell with. I'm thankful for the coolness that rain brings, and the relaxing atmosphere that comes along with it.

I'm thankful for spiritual rain, too.

Most of you are aware that I've been putting up a tough fight against post partum depression. While my cuckoo medicine has helped me tremendously, my awesome husband has helped me even more, and my Heavenly Father is at work, delivering me from the daily battles I face! What an incredible God we serve!!!

We're between pastors at church right now, and it's been a little more difficult for me stay encouraged this time around. I've heard a lot of disagreeing and complaining and griping and whining and bickering. But God is in the midst of everything, and He has the PERFECT plan for us.

There is a pressing issue that is extremely heavy on my heart right now that I'm not able to discuss at this time...but it's very real and very burdensome, and yet my hands are tied; but praise the Lord because His hands are hard at work!!!

"...if that's what it takes to praise You, Jesus bring the rain!"

So sweet...
Mo has become quite the caretaker of our babies.
Meeting their cousin, Brandon, for the first time

Just To Pacify Katie....

Howdy! We just got back in town from taking Claudia and Camile home...what a trip! In an effort to satisfy Sam's dad for making the long trip to meet us half way, we promised him he would get to see his grandbabies this time, since we didn't take them along on the last trip. (My sister would LOVE the runon sentence I just wrote!)

ANYWAY, we're SO glad to be home. We were reminded that Maya is NOT a very good traveler--she puked twice before we even got to the turnpike (about 45 minutes away from home). Thankfully, Sam was on parental duty on the way there! ;) I felt bad for the girls--Maya was sitting between the two of them. And as for Gabriel, well, he's a little trooper. He cried only when he was wet or hungry--speaking of, he weighed 15 lbs, 5 oz at his 2 month check up last week. The Dr. told me to quit feeding him and start substituting water because "he's way above and beyond the 100th percentile, and that's just ridiculous." Needless to say, this mama was a little irritated with the doctor when I walked out of there...

So we're at Nana & Papa's house right now, and I'm just going to post a few pictures for the time being. Hopefully, since I'm back to having only 2 kiddies I can get back on a regular posting schedule. Sam and I love you all TONS and really, really miss all of you who read this!!!!!

Hugs & Kisses,

Sarah
