What a morning, let me tell ya!
First, I woke up feeling something wet on the side of my nightgown. I was holding Gabriel, and as I peeled him away from my side, I realized he had peed like a horse--my nightgown was soaked, his clothes were soaked, and the bed sheets were soaked! Not really a big deal, I just cleaned everything up and we were good to go.
We waited a bit for Maya to wake up, and then we got her ready to go to Nana's. I decided I would try to tackle potty training today; so we put on panties (or as Maya calls them, "kitties"). So far, so good. I got the diaper bag loaded up, got Maya's shoes on, got Gabriel in his car seat, and out the door we went.
On my way out the door, somehow the screen door shut prematurely, and it caught me on my right ankle. Now THAT about made me cry. It was one of those instances where your insides pucker, and you're completely immobile--you can't walk, you can't talk, you can't cry, you can't even blink...the only thing you CAN do is grit your teeth.
Anyways, I managed to get the kids loaded in the van, and off we went to mom's house. I pulled out of the driveway, listening to Natalie Grant, and the world was good. Then all of a sudden, this thing jumps out in front of me. I looked in the rearview mirror, and all I could see were Maya's huge, brown eyes opened wider than I had ever seen before, and her little mouth opened just as wide, and she screamed at the top of her lungs. I slammed on the brakes, and the poor deer was trying to get out of my way, but his legs were sliding in the dirt, and he couldn't go one way or the other. He was just stuck. Finally, I think he realized that my van was actually stopped, so he gained enough traction to actually move out of my way.
By the way, I HATE deer.
Well, my heart was thumping, and I was frazzled. I was shaking and sweating, and wondering what the rest of the day had in store when I looked over and saw this house with the most beautiful flowers in the front yard. The closer I got, I realized it was a bunch of naked ladies...and the thought itself made me fill with laughter. I can just imagine an old man living there and telling people, "yeah, I've got a bunch of naked ladies in my front yard...you oughtta come see 'em!" :)
We finally made it to mom's house in one piece, with the exception of the skin I lost off my ankle on the front porch. When I was getting Gabriel out of the van, mom slung open the front door and yelled, "SARAH, YOU'VE GOT BLOOD RUNNING DOWN YOUR ANKLE!!!!!" That made me laugh even harder...it's one of those injuries that looks A LOT worse than it really is. Bless her heart, she was really worried about me. She grabbed the baby and told me to "get in there and get that cleaned up!"
Well, I sat down to eat some cereal, spilled it all over my shirt, and stepped on wet carpet. Maya had peed in her "kitties." So, I took her to the toilet, and that turned into a traumatic experience, so I've put a diaper back on her and decided to leave potty training for a better day. By the time I got back to my cereal, it was super soggy--yuck! So that went right down the drain. Then, Gabriel was smelling a little funky fresh, so I changed his diaper, and let's just say...he wasn't done doing his business yet. So I had poop flying EVERYWHERE. :) Only a mama can smile about that, I guess. lol
So now, I'm sitting here, taking a deep breath and enjoying a throat-burnin' Pepsi. And it's not even Noon yet!
